In 1 day, I reviewed 34 Engineer Resumes 🤯

Here are the 4 biggest mistakes software engineers make make:

🔸 Talks about technologies without impact.

🔸 Shows oldest experience first instead of last.

🔸 Listing technologies they don’t know well.

🔸 No career direction and constant jumps.

Talks about tech without discussing impact

❌ BAD: “Wrote services using Java, MySQL, Redis, AWS”

✅ Good: “Wrote services for 100 million Monthly Active Users and 99.99% uptime using Java, MySQL, Redis, AWS”

Give me hints about financial impact, scale, and quality.

Doesn’t use reverse chronological order

❌ BAD: Listing everything you did starting from school. Managers don’t care what you did 4 years ago, they want to know what you can do today.

✅ Tell me the most about your last job. Impact, technology, team size. Then discuss older positions

Lists technologies they don’t really know

❌ Resumes that look like this: “Expert at C++, C, C#, Python, Javascript, Java, PHP…
